Community Asset Management

We are currently developing an independent, autonomous social enterprise based in Dumfries and Galloway that will be owned and controlled by the community by means of “community shares”. The social enterprise is called Community Asset Management (Dumfries and Galloway) Limited.

Community Asset Management will develop and manage affordable, quality accommodation and meeting space for Third Sector organisations, social enterprises and social entrepreneurs working within the health and social care sector.

This venture is more than just creating office space. Through co-location of like-minded organisations we hope to encourage innovation and create an atmosphere of collaboration/co-operative and mutual working, while developing job creation and learning.

Members will be co-owners by means of “community shares” and will therefore have meaningful involvement in the running and development of the organisation.

These new buildings will be branded as “Wellbeing Centres”. For those Third Sector organisations involved in health and social care, they will be a one-stop shop for their clients. The buildings will also provide an incubation hub for new and emerging organisations to help develop their ambition and capacity for growth and support them along that journey.

The Community Empowerment Act will soon change the landscape within which the third sector operates. Opportunities will range from empowering community bodies to request the transfer of assets from public bodies to making a request to a public body to participate in “an outcome improvement process”. Community Asset Management will take advantage of the asset transfer process to help grow assets for the benefit of the community.

Community Asset Management (Dumfries and Galloway Limited) is a Community Benefit Society. Registration Number 7090. Registered Office: 16 Queensberry Street, Dumfries, DG1 3EX. Chair: Gordon L Mann; Company Secretary: Sharon Ogilvie.
